Surgery Day

So this morning I dropped Bentley off for his amputation. He of course had no idea and gladly pranced away with the vet tech. I used the time to clean my apartment and rearrange some stuff. He already loves his new Big Barker bed so he will be use to that after surgery. I’ve been fine all day waiting for the call saying he’s okay but I called around 5pm and they said they were about to start. Poor boy has been there since 8am!!! I wish I could have cuddled with him in the hospital. It’s so hard to not go visit him but reading the Tripawd’s book I know it’s not good. I’m going to use this night to catch up on my reading about having a new Tripawd. I’m starting to second guess myself, but he even stopped limping as much and just started hopping the past few days so I know it’s the right choice because he will now be pain free!

Bentley is a 3 year old pitbull and was rescued when he was 6 months old. He has delt with mange, ringworm, being attacked, TPLO surgery from a torn acl and now dealing with histiocystic sarcoma. He joined the tripawd club on April 13, 2016! Despite his health challenges he's as happy as can be! Follow his progress in his blog on here and on Instagram @honeyb_bentley Xo

  1. Surgery day and the week or two that follow are alway a blur of emotions and both of you learning to adapt to life on 3 legs. But once things begin to fall into place, it gets so much better. Prayers for Bently and a quick recovery and {{hugs}} for you.

  2. Just to reinforce your decision…when they hop and hold their leg up…it REALLY, REALLY hurts!
I had been on the fence about amputation (it was before I found this community). The day my Happy Hannah held her leg UP, and not just “limped”, I knew the pain meds were not working. I would have to “let her go” or give her a chance. ‘Gave her a chance…best decision ever!

Glad you fot the Big Barker bed. I really feel like it helped Happy Hannah stand without assistance when she wanted ro get up. Firm enough not to be squishy and slippery and supportive for their joints.

Looking forward to Bentley’s homecoming. When you go pick him up, don’t even bother looking at his incision, he sure isn’t! Just look into his druggy eyes and tell him what a good boy he is and applaud him for doing such a good job!

And give yourself a hug! You’re doing a good job too! 🙂

    Love and hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too
