First Hours with a New Tripawd

I picked Bentley up a little while ago and he came running down the hallway like he did when I first met him at the shelter almost 3 years ago. Of course I was so happy to see him but also freaking out he was going to slip and fall. My dad came into town to help me and him and his granddog are best buds, so that didn’t help B’s excitement level either. I brought him a new tennis ball to cheer him up if he was mopey, but he took it and jumped right on the bench to play with it. I didn’t hear anything the discharge vet was telling me so I’m glad they wrote it all out. I had a break down walking him out of the hospital seeing him hop and regretting the whole surgery, but I know he is no longer in pain. He’s getting some much needed sleep and I look forward to the ‘worst two weeks’ I’ve been reading about ahead. I’m so happy my baby is home!

Bentley is a 3 year old pitbull and was rescued when he was 6 months old. He has delt with mange, ringworm, being attacked, TPLO surgery from a torn acl and now dealing with histiocystic sarcoma. He joined the tripawd club on April 13, 2016! Despite his health challenges he's as happy as can be! Follow his progress in his blog on here and on Instagram @honeyb_bentley Xo

  1. YAAAAAAAAAY FOR BENTLEY!!! 🙂 I know you are so delighted to have him home! Clearly Bentley is thrilled!!

I’m glad you have your Dad to help. What a great Grandpa he is!

Right now Bentley is still high on hospital meds. You may see him have a bit of a crash around day two or three. The vet probably sent you home with Tramadol, Rimadyl, an antibiotic and maybe Gabapentin. Keeping the pain meds consistent so the pain never gets ahead start.

Stay connected and let us know how we can help support you.

Nust potty breaks and rest for Mr. Bentley right now. And lots of CHOCOLATE for you! It helps!

    Hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  2. My dog Barkley goes in tomorrow to have his right rear leg amputated. I am a wreck. I hope you and Bentley are doing ok. Keep us posted on his progress.

    1. It will be okay, I didn’t think I would survive not having him home and thinking he was alone at the hospital. Keep yourself busy- I cleaned my entire apartment and it took up time and kept my mind off things. I still have tears that come and go down my face but I think they are also happy tears cause I know Bents no longer in pain. Best of luck to you and Barkley!!
